Some La Crosse trails closed due to early spring muddy conditions

Published

Even though spring is here, it’s muddy.

So, a few hiking trails in the city of La Crosse are closed for now, even though people, who are trying to “social distance” during this COVID-19 pandemic, still want to get out for a walk.

Closed bluffland trails are susceptible to erosion and damage during this time of year.

The trails which can’t be used at this time include:

Hixon Forest — 2600 Old Quarry Rd
Upper Hixon Forest — 700 County Rd FA
Mathy Quarry — N3065 County Rd FA
Hass Tract — 3720 Easter Rd
Dobson Tract — 4402 Grandad Bluff Rd

These paved, city trails are open:

Pammel Creek Trail
Jim Asfoor and Vietnam Veterans — in the La Crosse River Marsh
Chad Erickson Park Trail — 3601 Park Lane Dr
Paved Trail on Houska Park — 1011 Joseph

For more updates on the trails, head to the city’s page here.
