Health precautions lead to livestream La Crosse city meeting
The weekly meeting of La Crosse’s board of public works sometimes draws a very small audience, and sometimes it gets no audience at all.
Monday morning’s meeting at City Hall had very few spectators, by design, and they were attending the meeting remotely.
Mayor Tim Kabat and other board members each sat at separate tables for social distancing, instead of the normal habit of all sitting at one big table.
Kabat noted that citizens connected by phone or video stream were invited to ask questions about items on the agenda, but no one chose to submit questions.
The board normally meets every Monday morning, but because of the precautions to avoid spreading coronavirus, the panel doesn’t plan to meet again during the entire month of April.
During a 20-minute meeting, the board approved a permit for new steps and a wheelchair ramp at the former Brickhouse Bar on 5th Avenue, which is being converted to a downtown school.
