Rotary starts “Food Drive Fridays” because of COVID

The spread of the coronavirus has put additional strain on some families to keep food on the table. 

Now, Rotary Clubs in the La Crosse area are helping collect food items for the local Hunger Task Force this spring. 

Pat Stephens heads the Rotary Lights campaign at the holidays, and he says this new effort will make up for other food campaigns which have been called off for this year, including the annual mail carriers’ food collection in May.    

For the next seven Fridays, volunteers will collect food items between 11 am and 1 pm at three area locations. 

The donations will be accepted outside Barnes and Noble at Valley View Mall, the Big Lots parking lot on Mormon Coulee Road, and the parking lot behind the county courthouse. 

A native of Prairie du Chien, Brad graduated from UW - La Crosse and has worked in radio news for more than 30 years, mostly in the La Crosse area. He regularly covers local courts and city and county government. Brad produces the features "Yesterday in La Crosse" and "What's Buried on Brad's Desk." He also writes the website "Triviazoids," which finds odd connections between events that happen on a certain date, and he writes and performs with the local comedy group Heart of La Crosse. Brad been featured on several national TV programs because of his memory skills.
