For the past 23 years, Winona has only had two mayors.

Come this fall, the city will be voting on a third.

Mark Peterson recently announced he was not running for re-election. He took over as mayor in 2013, after Jerry Miller decided not to seek re-election. Miller had been mayor since 1996.

So far, only Michelle Alexander, on Winona’s city council, has formally announced running for mayor.

Filing for mayor and city council positions runs from May 19-June 2.
