Bewley chosen to succeed Shilling as Senate Dem leader

Democrats in the Wisconsin State Senate have chosen a new minority leader to succeed La Crosse’s Jennifer Shilling. 

Senator Janet Bewley of Mason was chosen unanimously by the Democratic caucus. 

Friday is Shilling’s last day as minority leader for the Senate, although she will complete her Senate term and is not running for re-election in the fall.  

Shilling held the leadership post for five years. 

Bewley has been in the Senate for six years, after serving two terms in the state Assembly, and her Senate district borders Lake Superior.  

A native of Prairie du Chien, Brad graduated from UW - La Crosse and has worked in radio news for more than 30 years, mostly in the La Crosse area. He regularly covers local courts and city and county government. Brad produces the features "Yesterday in La Crosse" and "What's Buried on Brad's Desk." He also writes the website "Triviazoids," which finds odd connections between events that happen on a certain date, and he writes and performs with the local comedy group Heart of La Crosse. Brad been featured on several national TV programs because of his memory skills.
