Plans for Riverfest and Oktoberfest moving ahead
The cancellation of the spring sports season for Wisconsin high schools means there will be no state track meet at UW-L this year.
That amounts to about a $2 million loss in tourism revenue for the city, but even more money could be lost if Riverfest or Oktoberfest have to change their schedules for 2020.
A.J. Frels with the La Crosse County visitor bureau says a year without Oktoberfest would be especially painful, calling it the “granddad” of area celebrations.
By this time of year, new members of the Oktoberfest royal family have usually been notified about their honors, and late May is the usual time for the Riverfest Commodore and First Mate to be introduced to the public.
Riverfest is set to open on July 1st, two months from this Friday, and the four-day schedule of entertainment and events has already been announced.
Oktoberfest co-president James Brennan tells WIZM News there is still “quite a bit of time” before certain decisions need to be made about the late September event.
