Wisconsin homeowners could miss out on lottery tax credit
Are you missing out on money you could get from the government?
Many taxpayers in Wisconsin might not know that they’re eligible for a ‘lottery credit’ on their homes.
La Crosse County treasurer Amy Twitchell said it’s possible that a credit for your property might not be listed on your tax forms.
Twitchell said the eligibility for a credit only applies to your primary residence, and only goes back one tax year.
The state of Wisconsin has $236 million in tax breaks waiting for its citizens, if their main residence is in the state, with the average credit estimated at $160.
The lottery property tax credit is financed by the sales of Wisconsin lottery tickets.
The deadline for seeking this year’s credit is Oct. 1.
