Parking zones approved for carryout service in La Crosse

Downtown businesses in La Crosse may soon be able to provide temporary parking to customers for carryout service, while COVID-19 restrictions are in place.

The city board of public works has okayed a 15-minute limit to parking in designated curbside spots, downtown and in the Caledonia Street area.

City council member Chris Kahlow requested the temporary change, to give customers more time to pick up purchases from businesses.

Kahlow says the rule would help retail stores, as well as bars and restaurants, but she says the change is not aimed specifically at helping bars.

Some city leaders want to be sure that the proposal doesn’t violate rules for alcohol sales, which are not allowed on the street.

The curbside parking would be allowed for 15 minutes.  The temporary rule is scheduled to last through the end of August.
