Pumping may need to end at some La Crosse homes

Some homeowners in north La Crosse need to keep pumping water out of their basements, as they’ve been doing for the better part of a year. 

A couple of pumping requests were approved by the city board of public works Monday, including a 30-day extension of the pumping permit at one house on Liberty Street. 

But the city’s chief inspector, David Reinhart, says the frequent flow of water is causing street damage.    

Reinhart says the permanent solution at the Liberty house would be to fill in the basement, as several homeowners have requested for their properties.
