DMI welcomes governor’s order to reopen some businesses

Many businesses which have been closed for weeks because of COVID-19 could open again within days.

Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers is allowing non-essential retail stores to open, as long as they serve no more than five customers at a time.

Downtown Mainstreet, Inc. director Robin Moses in La Crosse says store owners will need to follow the social distancing standards before they re-open.

Moses believes that some customers will feel more comfortable going to smaller stores for now, because they’ll be less crowded.

Most businesses in downtown La Crosse closed on March 16th under the stay-at-home order issued by Evers.

The general order remains in place through May 26th.

Republican Assembly Speaker Robin Vos called for all businesses statewide to be opened.
