La Crosse sheriff expects jail population to rise soon

The stay-at-home orders in Wisconsin have kept plenty of people off the streets–apparently, including criminals.

La Crosse County Sheriff Jeff Wolf says activity in his department was down 29 per cent in April, compared to a year ago.

Wolf tells a county board committee that domestic violence has been up during the COVID outbreak, and he senses that ‘crime is changing.’

He believes that the jail population will start rising again soon.

The number of prisoners is in the 60’s, about half of what it was around the start of 2020.

The sheriff says judges have been putting off sentencing in some cases, to avoid jail crowding.

However, Wolf says violent crime has been ‘creeping up’ locally, with arrests for murder and attempted murder made this month.

In ways, every little town police department has a corruption element much like that one in Georgia where those two knuckle heads killed that black kid out for a run. This one is no exception, but the pandemic has exposed the fraud of our criminal justice system. We punish people. We don’t rehabilitate them. If you wonder why we have such a terrible death count it is because we deserve it.
