Elroy Fair canceled, board still hopeful for youth exhibits

The Elroy Fair Board announced Friday the event would be canceled in 2020.

The board said it was a difficult decision made with concern for the safety and health of the community, general public, vendors, carnival workers and service groups as well as exhibitors and parents.

Although there will be no public event or open show, the Elroy Fair Board is continuing its discussion on whether or not to having judging events for the 4-H, FFA and other youth organization exhibitors. That idea came in light of the recent Wisconsin Supreme Court decision that struck down Gov. Tony Evers’ safer-at-home order.

Any judging events held June 25-28 would be done with safety in mind and would involve adherence to all county and state COVID-19 recommendations and restrictions, according to the board.

The 2021 Elroy Fair is scheduled for June 24-27.

“The cancellation of the 2020 Elroy Fair is merely a bump in the road in the long history and tradition of the Elroy Fair which started in 1897,” the board said.
