Bus rolls onto safety crew member killing River Falls man

A damaged bus rolled on top of a safety crew member who was helping with a crash in St. Croix County.

The county emergency communication center received a 911 call that someone was hurt at Cedar Lake Speedway in Star Prairie Township Friday around 9:01 p.m.

There was a collision during a school bus race on the trace track. Safety crew personnel were tending to the damaged buses. Edward A. Nicholson, 62, from River Falls was helping clear the track when one of the damaged buses rolled onto him, according to the St. Croix County Sheriff’s Office.

Nicholson was extricated, and emergency personnel tried using lifesaving efforts, but Nicholson was pronounced dead at the scene.

The St. Croix County Sheriff’s Office, Medical Examiner’s Office and OSHA are investigating the incident.
