Airport numbers down drastically in La Crosse because of shutdowns

The La Crosse Regional Airport was off to a really good year in 2020, until the coronavirus arrived.

Figures for passenger flights released by the airport show that local plane flights, excluding charters, had more than 7000 passengers in both January and February, the best figures for both months since at least 2016.

But when government restrictions began in March, the emplanement number for that month fell to 3900, down 50 per cent from a year ago.

And in April, the passenger total of 372 was only 5 per cent of that from the previous April, when 7200 passengers were reported.

More than 10,000 passengers were counted on La Crosse flights last August.

LSE has been within striking distance of 100,000 passengers the last two years, but for the first four months of 2020, the total is under 20,000.
