New soil study of Bliss Road is authorized

It could be another summer of worrying about whether heavy rains will wreck a popular road in the bluffs.

At La Crosse City Hall, the board of public works has voted to spend existing city funding on a soil consultant to look at the condition of the ground under Bliss Road on Grandad Bluff.

Mayor Tim Kabat says the latest concern about Bliss is related to erosion issues atop the bluff, near the Alpine Inn.

Flash flooding has caused repeated wash-outs of the road in recent years, especially in 2007, leading to weeks and months of repairs and detours.

Money to hire a soil consultant would be paid from the existing storm water budget.  Bliss Road is getting attention again, because of erosion problems along a sewer line at the top of the bluff.
