The death of a La Crosse County prisoner earlier this year has been ruled a death from natural causes.

The sheriff’s department says there was no foul play when 57-year-old Jeffrey Nottestad was declared dead at the county jail on February 4th, following attempts to revive him.

At the time, Sheriff Jeff Wolf said it appeared that Nottestad had died from a previous medical condition.

La Crosse police investigated the death, and an autopsy was conducted at Mayo Clinic in Rochester.

Nottestad apparently died a short time after jailers had routine contact with him.
