La Crosse Center could get more budget cuts to reduce city shortfall

The La Crosse city council could vote Thursday night on new budget cuts designed to balance a $6 million revenue shortfall.

The shortage of money is being blamed partly on the coronavirus, but also on renovations at the La Crosse Center which prevent the building from holding money-making events.

Center manager Art Fahey is working on ways to guarantee certain events late in the year, such as the Elvis Explosion and the November Holiday Fair.

The main arena is closed to events, because its original 40-year-old seating is being replaced over the next two months.

The La Crosse Center lobby just reopened this week for limited activity.
