Rose Street apartment plan still in front of City Council

A new housing plan for a block of Rose Street in La Crosse moves ahead to a city committee meeting on Tuesday.

The city plan commission has narrowly approved the apartment building plans on a 5-to-3 vote.

Neighbors of the property are concerned about drug activity in the area, and the developer says those neighbors haven’t changed their minds about opposing the building plan.

Mayor Tim Kabat says he can’t fully support the project yet, either, until he sees more details.

The plan commission also has approved rezoning for land near Highway 14 which had been considered for a new fire station.

The city has given up plans to develop a fire station at Creekside Place near the Shrine of Guadalupe.

The land will be zoned differently, probably for single-family housing.
