Onalaska supports area guidelines for permitting larger gatherings
The city of Onalaska is preparing to allow more special events, even as the coronavirus pandemic continues.
On Tuesday night, the city council rescinded an order limiting crowd sizes, and adopted guidelines called the Coulee COVID-19 Compass.
Onalaska Mayor Kim Smith says the local health experts have more information on the virus than city leaders do.
The Compass guidelines were challenged by Onalaska Alderman Steven Nott, who says the latest research on COVID suggests that widespread shutdowns haven’t done much to stop the disease.
After debate, though, Nott joined other council members in supporting the change.
The new suggestions could allow more events, such as a series of ‘Great River Sound’ concerts starting next week.
