The anticipation for those concerned with COVID-19 in La Crosse County ran a little high on Thursday.

That’s because the county had reported a single-day high 15 cases Wednesday, which more than doubled the previous single day high, set the day before, of seven.

But then a sigh of relief, perhaps, when the county health department reported just three cases.

It wasn’t but two weeks ago, though, when three cases would have been a little alarming for La Crosse. The county went a stretch of 13 days in April without a single case of the virus. Now, La Crosse County has seen 13 consecutive days with the virus — the last 10 days, being multiple cases.

Before that stretch, the county hadn’t had but just 12 days with two or more cases since the pandemic began.

So far in June, La Crosse has had 46 total cases. In March, April and May combined, its had 45 total.

The county has a total of 101 cases of COVID-19 now — 57 considered recovered, while two are currently hospitalized.

The three new cases are two women in their 20s, one to have moderate symptoms, and a man in his 60s.

Just out of La Crosse, only two other counties reported cases — Trempealeau and Winona.

Trempealeau now has 54 total, after reporting two more Thursday. That’s a stretch of five consecutive days with multiple cases there.

Winona is up to 87 total cases after reporting one more case.

STATE TOTALS

Meanwhile, Wisconsin reported another 11 deaths and 333 cases of the virus Thursday. The state has seen double-digit deaths three consecutive days, after having just one reported June 7-8.

The hospitalization rate for those infected with the virus in the state is 14 percent. The mortality rate in Wisconsin is 3 percent.

Minnesota reported 13 deaths and saw cases rise by 101 from Wednesday, to 453. The state was in the 300s the past four days.

Iowa suffered nine deaths and 331 new cases in a 24-hour period that begag at 10 a.m. Wednesday.

This story will be updated as numbers are released throughout the area counties.
