The second-highest single day total of COVID-19 cases was reported Sunday in La Crosse County.

Ten cases of the virus Sunday gives the county 125 total with 62 considered recovered and three currently hospitalized.

This is the third consecutive day where all the cases (24 total) are people in their 20s or younger (one teenager).

This is the 16th consecutive day with at least one case and 13th in a row with multiple cases in the county. During the shutdown in April, the county went 13 consecutive days without a single case.

In the five of the past six days, the county has reported its highest daily totals of 15, 10, eight, seven and six cases.

La Crosse has had 70 cases total in June. It’s had 55 cases combined March-May, which includes 19 total in the 11 days of March — 10 in two of the first four days — when cases first started to be reported.

Sunday’s positive test rate was 12.9 percent. The county total is now up to 1.5 percent of those tested.

In the counties around La Crosse, Buffalo added one new case and is up to seven total, according to the state website, while Winona reported no new cases for the third consecutive day.

Trempealeau, Vernon and Houston didn’t report on cases. Iowa’s health department website does not accurately report on Allamakee County, which has fluctuated between 109 and 122 cases — adding or subtracting a dozen cases on any given day — over the past week or more. It shows 111 cases Sunday.

The only deaths in the area are 15 in Winona County — all coming from the Sauer Health Care senior-living facility — and two in Buffalo County.

STATE TOTALS
Wisconsin: 22,758 cases, 692 deaths
Minnesota: 30,471 cases, 1,298 deaths
Iowa: 23,926 cases, 652 deaths

Statewide, Wisconsin reported another 240 cases and one death. It’s the third consecutive day with single-digit deaths, after three consecutive days in the double digits.

In Minnesota, 15 deaths and 311 new cases were reported. The 311 is the second-lowest total in the past 12 days, where the state has seen as few as 307 cases and as many as 712.

In a 24-hour period that began at 10 a.m. Saturday, Iowa reported no deaths and 328 new cases. Iowa’s health department doesn’t put out daily reports, like Minnesota and Wisconsin, instead having its numbers updated on the site in real time.

Worldwide, there are now nearly 7.9 million cases of the virus and 431,418 deaths, according to John Hopkins data. The US has 27 percent of the Earth’s total reported cases and deaths.
