The herons in downtown La Crosse could get more company.

The La Crosse city park board is endorsing a plan for an Art Market, to be held on Saturdays during the summer and early fall.

The market would allow local artists to display their craftwork and sell it.

Each artist would be assigned a space between two of the heron statues located outside the Radisson, to achieve social distancing.

The proposed schedule was supposed to start this weekend, but the board voted to allow the market only on Saturdays when the COVID threat level in La Crosse County is at orange or lower.

The level was moved up to red this week.

The market could last through the second week of October.
