The city of La Crosse might want to schedule its large-item pickup program for later in the spring.

City recycling coordinator Char Wagner tells the board of public works that many furniture items and other junk were left at curbsides after the pickup period ended on May 22nd this year.

Wagner says the city should have the pickup closer to the 1st of June, when many apartment leases expire in the college neighborhoods.

The cost of this year’s pickup was $89,000.

Since schools didn’t have in-person graduations this spring, some students may have waited longer to move out.

Wagner says almost 1600 old mattresses were picked up and recycled through the program this May.
