Commission accomplished: Sustainability panel is retired
A committee that promotes ‘sustainability’ in La Crosse County has been voted out of existence.
Last week, the county board approved a plan to dissolve the Sustainable La Crosse Commission, which had promoted energy efficiency and conservation for 13 years.
The resolution which was passed says the commission has accomplished its goal of getting county departments to be more environment-conscious.
But climate change and energy needs are still important issues, and county administrator Steve O’Malley says county leaders have to decide what takes the commission’s place.
The next move is likely to include public forums on sustainability and working with consultants.
O’Malley says those forums could be held ‘if and when’ the COVID-19 epidemic subsides in La Crosse County.
