Under normal circumstances, La Crosse’s Riverside Park would be filled with tents, stages, and visitors this week, during Riverfest.

But the park is mainly empty, because the coronavirus led to the festival’s cancellation for this year.

The entrance and east leg of Veterans Memorial Drive through the park is now closed to traffic for nine hours a day, Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Normal traffic resumes at 3 p.m. while a construction project is happening.

The west leg of the road, closest to the river, will be two-way during the hours of construction, with a turnaround near the Hiawatha statue.
