Winona County woman found dead, husband says he killed her

A 79-year-old man tells Winona County 9-1-1 that he killed his wife at their home near Dakota.

The sheriff’s department says officers and first responders found Joseph Wright at his house on Friday, with non-life threatening injuries, and his 72-year-old wife was found dead.

Gunfire reportedly was heard in the area of County Road 12 near Dakota late Friday morning, around the time of the 9-1-1 call.

Wright was taken to a hospital by ambulance, and was booked in the La Crosse County jail on Saturday.

He could have an extradition hearing on Monday.
