La Crosse Center expansion on schedule

The $42 million makeover of the La Crosse Center is moving along well, four months into construction, according to a contractor on the project. 

In a report to the La Crosse board of public works, Peter Linsmeier with Kraus Anderson says improvements to the main arena should be finished in about a month.

The original seating from 40 years ago is being replaced, and that phase of the work may end in mid-August.  

Linsmeier says the contractors are trying to keep workers healthy, amid the coronavirus outbreak, pointing out that the 50 to 75 staffers at the center each day have to sign in daily and be checked for signs of illness.

Most of the construction is scheduled to be finished by early 2021, when large meetings could return to the La Crosse Center.
