Dakota man awaiting charges in wife’s death

Winona County is still preparing charges against a 79-year-old man from Dakota who admits to killing his wife and attempting suicide. 

Joseph Wright has not had a Winona County court appearance since the death of his wife last Friday. 

He was treated at a La Crosse hospital for apparently cutting his own wrist, and then went to jail briefly before agreeing to be sent back to Minnesota. 

Officers were dispatched to the Wright home, after Wright called 9-1-1 to say he had killed his wife.  

A native of Prairie du Chien, Brad graduated from UW - La Crosse and has worked in radio news for more than 30 years, mostly in the La Crosse area. He regularly covers local courts and city and county government. Brad produces the features "Yesterday in La Crosse" and "What's Buried on Brad's Desk." He also writes the website "Triviazoids," which finds odd connections between events that happen on a certain date, and he writes and performs with the local comedy group Heart of La Crosse. Brad been featured on several national TV programs because of his memory skills.
