Congress is helping people around the country preserve and restore public lands, including wildlife refuges.

La Crosse Congressman Ron Kind has voted for a bill to establish permanent funding for refuges such as those which exist in Wisconsin and on the Mississippi.

Kind says money from the Land and Water Conservation Fund will be available to each county in Wisconsin, “so they can invest in these green projects, in parks, in campgrounds, in ball parks, hiking and biking trails that we’re blessed with throughout the region.”

Wisconsin DNR secretary Preston Cole joined Kind on a Zoom conference with area media on Friday.

Cole says Wisconsin parks benefitted from being open this year when parks in surrounding states were shut down because of the coronavirus, because people traveled from Illinois and other states to visit the Badger State.

Cole calls Kind a “champion” of the effort to preserve wild areas for use by the general public.
