La Crosse County surpasses 800 cases, hits double-digits for fifth consecutive day

La Crosse County surpassed 800 cases of COVID-19 over the weekend.

The health department confirmed 27 cases — 15 Saturday and 12 more on Sunday.

Monday, another 15 cases were confirmed, bringing the total to 835 with 149 still active. La Crosse has had double-digit cases six of the past seven days. Since the county got 21 cases June 16 — the first time with more than 20 cases in a day — it’s only had 14 days of single-digit cases.

The county has averaged 14.5 cases since that day, which began a string of 11 consecutive days with 20 or more cases. Before June 16, the county averaged 1.6 cases a day.

There are four people currently hospitalized, while the total hospitalizations since reporting began is 37 county residents.

As for surrounding counties, Trempealeau added seven cases over the weekend and one more Monday, bringing its total to 313 with 60 still active.

Winona added five over the weekend and two Monday, for 247 total.

Vernon County added five cases since Friday, bringing its total to 59, with seven recovering at home.

In Monroe County, 16 were over the weekend for 224 total. Buffalo has added zero cases since Friday, and remains at 41, while Houston added two last weekend and is now at 39.

Statewide, Wisconsin numbers were nearly cut in half Monday, from previous totals. The state reports 404 cases, 15 hospitalizations and one death. In the 20 days prior, the state had averaged 899 cases and 43 hospitalizations, including a record 1,062 cases Saturday.

Minnesota confirmed 622 cases, 57 hospitalizations and two deaths.

Iowa added 320 cases, four deaths in a 24-hour period that began at 10 a.m. Sunday. The state doesn’t have a daily report, but does update its online dashboard in real-time.
