Starting Friday, Walmart stores in La Crosse and Onalaska will collect school supplies to help local families prepare for a new year

The event will run through Sunday. Shannon Parker is the coordinator of rep-payee and St. Lawrence community services programs in the La Crosse Catholic Charities office. She said the academic year will look different, but families may feel a familiar financial strain.

“The children are still going to be doing school work,” Parker said. “Some of that will be through their iPads. Other work will be in paper form, so they will need their pencils and notebooks and things like that to get their work done. The kiddos are going to need a good start to the school year and some consistency.”

Those who wish to donate supplies can also make purchases through Walmart’s registry that are shipped directly to the Salvation Army.

Additionally, Back2School is has a gofundme and an online page for monetary donations. Backpacks and school supplies can be dropped off at the Catholic Charities downtown office (413 3rd Street South) Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
