Crosswalks could be painted in La Crosse
You might see more colorful crosswalks on La Crosse streets in the future.
City committees are discussing the idea of letting local residents paint artistic designs at street crossings, following the lead of other communities.
City council member Larry Sleznikow says the idea has been debated by the Bicycle-Pedestrian Advisory Committee, following the lead of cities like Milwaukee and Stevens Point.
The crosswalk art might be limited to city streets that are not also used as state and federal highways, because the Wisconsin DOT reportedly frowns on creative decoration of pedestrian crossings.
A small fee might be charged to have a crosswalk decoration removed.
