La Crosse, Winona COVID-19 cases continue surge

COVID-19 cases in La Crosse County rose to 1,156 total, after state data shows another 23 cases on Saturday.

The county has averaged 19.3 cases the past 10 days, including an all-time high 32 cases on Thursday. The 10 days before that, La Crosse averaged 8.7 cases day.

Winona’s surge continued Saturday, as well, with another 24 cases. The county had an all-time high 38 cases on Thursday.

After being in the single digits daily since July 26, Winona has had 74 cases the past three days — most of which are in the 18-24 age range, according to a release on Friday.

Wisconsin: 74,800 cases, 5,775 hospitalizations, 1,119 deaths
Minnesota: 74,257 cases, 6,411 hospitalizations, 1,814 deaths
Iowa: 63,836 cases, 1,110 deaths


Statewide, Wisconsin added another 819 cases, 39 hospitalizations and six deaths. The state has averaged 40.4 hospitalizations the past four days.

Minnesota data shows another 1,032 cases, 54 hospitalizations and four deaths Saturday. It’s the second time in three days — and second time ever — the state has had over 1,000 cases. Before that, it had been in the 900s twice.

Iowa data shows another 1,008 cases and two deaths Saturday. The state has averaged 1,557 cases the past four days, including 2,621 over a 24-hour period ending early Friday.
