La Crosse Center hopes to have coronavirus variations on fall traditions

This time of year, the La Crosse Center would be getting ready for its annual “Elvis Explosion.”

But that festival of Elvis Presley tribute artists, usually held in September, has been called off for this year, like many other events, because of COVID-19.

However, don’t count the center out completely for 2020.

Center director Art Fahey is making plans to hold a few traditional events toward the end of the year, under health rules recommended by La Crosse County.

Those events would include the Holiday Fair, the Bull Riding show, and a high school wrestling tournament.

The COVID guidelines would include mask-wearing, and a limit of 50 per cent of the usual people participating.

Fahey is getting advice from other entertainment organizations which have remained in business during the outbreak.

He tells the center board that the Loggers baseball team was able to play before fans in the stands who were screened before going into the ballpark.

The civic center also is in the middle of a $42 million expansion.
