La Crosse, Winona COVID-19 cases continue to rise

La Crosse and Winona counties continue to see a large rise in COVID-19 cases.

On Sunday, state data shows La Crosse with another 21 cases, bringing the total to 1,177. The county has averaged 20.6 cases a day the past seven days, including a single-day high 32 cases on Thursday.

The county will also host the third in a trio of Monday free National Guard testing sites in the health department parking lot downtown (map) from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. More info here.

In Winona, a near-record 35 cases were confirmed Sunday, bringing the total to 427. The county has averaged 27.3 cases a day the past four days.

Asked online why the Winona County Emergency Management doesn’t share more than case data it said, “Our team at Emergency Management does not have access to the information that you are looking for. We just share the information that we are given from Health and Human Services. Please feel free to direct your concerns to the Universities and Colleges in town, as they are the ones who make the decisions.”

Minnesota: 75,189 cases, 6,454 hospitalizations, 1,816 deaths
Iowa: 64,599 cases, 1,113 deaths


Statewide, as is often the case on Sundays, Wisconsin testing and cases were about half. The state had 537 cases, 29 hospitalizations and three deaths.

In Minnesota, there were 934 cases — third-highest ever in a day in the state — 43 hospitalizations and two deaths. The state has averaged 996.5 cases a day the past four days, including an all-time high 1,158 cases.

Iowa’s dashboard shows 763 cases, three deaths the past 24 hours. The state had averaged 1,557.5 cases a day the past four days, including an all-time high 2,621 cases Thursday. The state said it was due to an additional kind of test.
