Public works board ponders sewer plans for Campbell, Kwik Trip

A storm sewer has to be fixed in the French Island area, but who’s going to pay for it? 

The La Crosse board of public works tackled that problem on Tuesday, while reviewing sewer damage on a block of Nakomis Avenue. 

The overall cost of repairs could be $37,000, but the city of La Crosse and town of Campbell could share $25,000 of the expenses. 

La Crosse council member Gary Padesky doesn’t want the city to make the first move, without being assured that Campbell will cover half the cost.    

The public works panel approved the repair plan, counting on Campbell to pay its share.  

Kwik Trip expansions are happening in many locations, with the company enlarging its dairy production facilities in La Crosse’s north-side industrial park, and looking for more sewer capacity. 

Kwik Trip rep Todd Nedegaard tells the city board of public works that a sewer study would be helpful, whether it’s done by city staff or somebody else.    

A final design will be brought to the public works board for approval. 

Meanwhile, some old businesses in the Ward Avenue area are being prepared for demolition, for a large new Kwik Trip store to be built at the corner of Ward and Mormon Coulee. 

The old Baus Haus building is empty, and workers are removing equipment such as air conditioners from the former Redwood Motel.
