La Crosse County, Wisconsin set single-day case highs; UW-L suspends classes until Wednesday

A single-day high 129 cases of COVID-19 in La Crosse County, according to state data Sunday.

La Crosse is now at 1,625 total cases.

The La Crosse County Health Department reported 101 cases late Friday. It will be updating case counts during the week on its website here.

The news comes as UW-La Crosse has taken multiple measures to slow the spread of the virus on campus, including a “shelter in place” status Sunday on all dorms for two weeks, in-person classes suspended until Wednesday, and mask requirements both indoors and outdoors.

Wisconsin: 89,185 cases, 6,332 hospitalizations, 1,210 deaths
Minnesota: 84,311 cases, 6,931 hospitalizations, 1,919 deaths
Iowa: 74,675 cases, 1,220 deaths


Statewide, Wisconsin set a single-day high with 1,582 new cases, beating the previous high from Thursday of 1,547.

Wisconsin has gone four consecutive days with over a thousand cases. The state had never gone two days in a row with that many before this stretch.

Wisconsin also had 23 more hospitalizations and one death. The state had reported 41 deaths the previous four days.

Minnesota added 741 cases, 32 hospitalizations and 13 deaths. The state has reported 50 deaths the past four days from the virus.

Iowa data shows another 470 new cases, two deaths over a 24-hour period through Sunday.
