Jury trials in La Crosse may still wait until January
The chance of resuming jury trials in La Crosse County during 2020 still seems very remote.
Judge Scott Horne tells a county committee again this month that trials probably won’t happen until early in the new year, because of space restrictions designed to control COVID-19.
The judge also says new ventilation equipment for the courthouse could help get business back to normal, along with video equipment for Zoom meetings.
The county conducted only 3 jury trials this year before the pandemic led to mass shutdowns at government buildings.
Monroe County recently conducted an in-person sentencing in a child abuse case, but set aside two courtrooms to accommodate all the participants, to provide social distancing.
