La Crosse over 2,000 COVID-19 cases, Winona suffers 18th death

Over 100 new cases in La Crosse County, 20 more in Winona, and another death.

It’s the 18th death in Winona County. The only other detail was it was a patient between 65-69 years old. It’s the first death in Winona since Aug. 15.

The county also added 20 cases Wednesday, bringing its total to 714.

La Crosse County is now at 2,011 cases, after 112 more confirmed, according to state data. That’s the third time in the past four days with over a hundred cases.

La Crosse was on top of the New York Times list for rising cases in the country Wednesday. It was third on Monday.

Daily county health department data shows La Crosse’s seven-day average at exactly 100 per day. There have been a total of 64 hospitalizations, up three from Tuesday.

There are 961 active cases.

UW-La Crosse’s COVID-19 dashboard shows 35 positive tests Wednesday — 21 PCR tests, 14 antigen. Antigen tests will likely be referred to get a PCR test, which is more accurate.

Of the university’s 145 quarantine spaces, 81 are in use, 28 are being cleaned.

In surrounding counties, Trempealeau is up to 491 cases, after another 15 on Wednesday, according to state data.

Monroe County (344 total) added 12 cases, Houston (104) seven, Vernon (149) four and Buffalo (114) three.

Minnesota: 85,813 cases, 7,019 hospitalizations, 1,933 deaths
Iowa: 76,680 cases, 1,248 deaths


Statewide, Wisconsin added 1,408 cases, 48 hospitalizations and eight deaths Wednesday.

Its the sixth time in the past seven days with over a thousand cases. Wisconsin is averaging 1,069.3 cases a day in September. That number was 731 in August.

The new hospitalizations a day average in September is 39. In August it was 38.

Minnesota added 513 cases, 40 hospitalizations and seven deaths Wednesday.

Iowa data shows 958 cases, 14 deaths through Wednesday. The state has had 28 deaths the past three days.
