Baldwin speaks out on court appointment and health care
Several women serving in Congress are worried about the future of abortion rights and the Affordable Care Act, if a new justice is put on the Supreme Court before the election.
Wisconsin Senator Tammy Baldwin is one of them.
During a news conference out of Washington, Baldwin said this would be a bad time to make drastic changes in federal health care policy.
“I do view this process as illegitimate,” said Baldwin about the effort to appoint Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court before November. “Essentially, agreement to overturning the Affordable Care Act and animosity and opposition to Roe v. Wade appear to be a litmus test.”
Baldwin says any appointment should wait until after voters decide who will be president for the next 4 years.
Michigan Senator Debbie Stabenow also worries that nominee Barrett is intent on overturning Obamacare.
