Wisconsin COVID-19 count all at near records, La Crosse County adds 75 cases, six hospitalizations
More COVID-19 records set in Wisconsin.
A single-day high 2,887 cases were reported Thursday, a near-record 109 hospitalizations and 21 more deaths due to the virus.
The death toll follows a single-day high 27 deaths Wednesday, which also had the second-most hospitalizations at 91 — which is the third-most, after Thursday’s tally.
The total number of people hospitalized fell by 14 overnight, with 669 patients hospitalized Thursday. But those in the ICU with the virus hit an all-time high of 208, as hospitals across the state are reaching capacity.
In La Crosse County, the hospitalization total grew by six to 88. The dashboard metric for new hospitalization rate remains green, though an increase by six in one day — let alone a week — would set it to at least yellow.
The Coulee COVID-19 Collaborative dashboard, however, is only updated on Wednesdays. And, through that update, the only metrics in green were new hospitalizations and hospital care capacity. All the community indicators are in the red for “concern.“
Cases grew in La Crosse County by 75 to 3,205 total, according to state data. The seven-day case average dipped to 39 on the county dashboard.
In other counties Monroe added 12 cases (156) with two hospitalized. Trempealeau added 16 cases (686 total), where three are hospitalized. Vernon added 10 cases (262 total) with one hospitalized. Winona also added 10 (933), while Houston added three cases (136).
