Area Dems promote Biden in virtual meeting

The economy in western Wisconsin was having serious problems before the coronavirus hit. 

That opinion comes from a long-time farmer in Trempealeau County, Paul Adams. 

He took part in an online conference Monday, supporting Joe Biden for president.

Adams said his family dairy in the Eleva, Wis., area has shut down, but so have other area businesses.

“I sometimes think I must be a poor manager,” Adams said. “But … Danny’s dairy, two miles away from me, folded a year ago. The hardwood floor manufacturer I purchase waste sawdust from for bedding” also went out of business.    

Congressman Ron Kind and State Senate candidate Brad Pfaff also spoke during the event, saying Biden would work to help the rural economy if he’s in the White House.  

The Biden program also dealt with concerns for the future of health care in the U.S., especially with President Donald Trump being treated for COVID-19. 

Olivia Ramsey, a teenager from Viroqua, who has had diabetes for years, worries about health coverage being available.

“When I turn 26, and I’m no longer eligible to be on my mom’s employer health insurance, and if I can’t find an employer that offers good health benefits, I may need to turn to the (Affordable Care Act) for coverage,” Ramsey said.

Sen. Tammy Baldwin also spoke during the program about health care programs that could be saved by keeping the ACA, which could be reviewed soon by the Supreme Court.
