A motorist called the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office around 10:11 a.m. Sunday to report a vehicle over an embankment on Hwy 56 east of Viroqua in the town of Liberty.

Caden Roth, 17 of Viroqua, JJ Hertel, 17 of Westby, and Milton Gill, 15 of Westby, were all at the scene of an accident that law enforcement believe happened just after midnight. Roth was driving eastbound when he lost control, went over the embankment and hit a tree.

The sheriff’s office said all three were disoriented and stayed in or around the vehicle before being found. All three were taken to Vernon Memorial Hospital to be treated for cold exposure. They were wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident.
