Monroe County accident leaves tractor driver critically injured

A man hauling a load of corn silage was flown to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries after being rear-ended by a dump truck in Monroe County Monday night.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office received a call reporting the accident on Cty. Hwy. B near Dayton Ave. at 7:15 p.m. Michael Cannon was driving a 2000 Red Peterbilt dump truck northbound on Cty. Hwy B. Cannon’s dump truck crashed into the rear of a Blue New Holland tractor hauling a load of corn silage on a wooden wagon driven by Bryan Olsen. Olsen was flown to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the dump truck was not hurt.

County Highway B was closed for approximately 5 hours while the crash investigation was completed. The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office and Wisconsin State Patrol are still investigating what happened.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Monroe County 911 Communications Center, Wisconsin State Patrol, Sparta Area Ambulance Service, Cataract First Responders, Monroe County Highway Department, and Gundersen Air.
