The City of La Crosse Parks, Recreation, and Forestry Department partnered with the Onalaska Jaycees to offer the Pettibone Haunted Mile in Pettibone Park Oct. 24.

Organizers said it was created out of an abundance of caution and a desire to provide a unique opportunity for the community.

“It is a way that we’ve made changes to offer something like this to the community while still being safe,” Abby Heilman with the La Crosse Parks and Rec. Department said. “We are very excited. This is going to be something fun not just for the community, but for us as well.”

The Pettibone Haunted Mile will take the place of each organization’s usual Halloween events, Field of Screams, and the Onalaska Jaycees Haunted House, respectively.

The Haunted Mile will feature an array of spooky sets and scenes created and brought to life by the Onalaska Jaycees – with hours 5 pm-7 pm designated as “light scares” and hours 7 pm-9 pm designated as “heavy scares.” Participants will be able to receive pre-bagged candy at the conclusion of the mile.

Participants are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item that can be donated between local food pantries.
