Mayo doctor pleased with testing of COVID medicines
A Mayo doctor who’s testing COVID treatments is hopeful that drugs being developed will make the illness less severe.
Dr. Raymund Razonable at Mayo in Rochester says the drug remdesivir has become the standard of care for COVID patients, and dexamethasone also seems to work well.
Razonable is working on trials of an ‘antibody cocktail.’
On the other hand, he says hydroxy-chloroquine, which has been touted by President Trump as a preventing measure, ‘does not work.’
Reporters asked Razonable if there’s a cure for COVID yet?
“No, not yet,” he said. “This is currently undergoing…clinical trial. Only then, when this trial is completed, will we know on whether it’s going to be effective or not.”
Razonable says the number of hospitalizations in Minnesota has seen an uptick recently. He hasn’t seen a steady decline in new cases yet.
