Brewery land might be needed for harbor parking

La Crosse’s municipal boat harbor might need more parking space next year.

The city board of public works is being asked to add a parking area on land on Isle La Plume that’s being leased now to the City Brewery for storage.

Jim Flottmeyer of the park department says boating has become more popular locally, and the baseball fields near the harbor are likely to be busy when ball games resume.

“The parking down in that area was tight” this summer, according to Flottmeyer, even though the Carroll ball fields were not used. “Until we know we’re gonna have an issue starting in 2021, we’ve got some big tournaments scheduled,” and about 20 new spaces might be needed.

The board delayed action on the matter for two weeks, to give the brewery time to respond.
