La Crosse County ready to impose crowd limits
La Crosse County is ready to issue its own version of the governor’s order on crowd sizes, to limit the spread of COVID-19.
County corporation counsel Megan Devore tells the county board that the health department will suggest a limit of 25 per cent capacity on indoor gatherings, to be announced officially Friday.
Devore says the advisory would not apply to government offices, churches, or schools.
A similar statewide order issued by Gov. Tony Evers has been blocked temporarily in court.
County health director Jen Rombalski says the proposal only applies to indoor meeting places, and it wouldn’t cover cases where a business sets up an outdoor tent that becomes filled to capacity.
“I would not say it’s okay,” said Rombalski. “But the language in the health advisory would indicate that is not something that we would use the advisory to implement that next stepwise approach that we’ve discussed.”
County leaders say their capacity limit would not come with any closures or tickets, but it would be more of a warning.
