A local university fraternity is kicking off its second annual fall food drive.

Lambda Chi Alpha at UW-La Crosse brought in 700 pounds of food during its first collection effort last fall.

Fraternity spokesman Brandon Hawn says they’re shooting for much higher numbers this year, about 2500 pounds.

Collection bags are available starting Friday at six participating churches, including St. Joseph the Workman Cathedral.

The filled bags will be collected on Sunday, October 25th, with the donations going to area food pantries.

“We’re just thought of as ‘party house,’ right?” said Hawn. “But that’s just not the case. We involve ourselves in leadership, we learn valuable skills that we can take through, into the rest of our lives.”
