Smaller kettle drive planned by La Crosse’s Salvation Army this year

The holiday season promises to be a bit different this year, because of COVID-19.  For one thing, you might not hear as many tinkling bells at local stores, at Salvation Army kettles.

Alex Riley of the La Crosse Salvation Army says they will try to have 19 red kettles posted at public sites, but he realizes that kettle donations may be down this year, and the number of bell-ringers might be lower, too.

Many Americans have stopped carrying cash this year, during the pandemic, and many traditional stores have been closed or admit fewer customers inside to prevent the spread of the virus.

Riley says virtual bell-ringing is being organized, but the Salvation Army is still recruiting ringers for the kettle locations.
